Payment methods

The Awareness Shop accepts a variety of payment methods.

  • Credit & Debit Cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diner's Club/Carte Blanche, JCB)
  • Awareness Shop Gift Cards
    Cash (For in-store purchases)
  • Note: We regret that we are unable to accept checks or money orders. 

Some payment types are ineligible for orders shipping to multiple addresses. If you are using an ineligible payment type for an order shipping to multiple addresses, you will need to change the payment method, or ship your order to a single address. 

Using more than one payment card

You can also combine payment methods to pay for your purchase. You can use up to two credit/debit cards, two Awareness Shop Gift Cards or one credit/debit card and an Awareness Shop Gift Card. During checkout, if you are paying with a gift card issued by a credit card company, you can combine it with one credit card.

Troubleshooting credit card & debit card payment errors

  • If your card is new or recently reissued, make sure it has been activated.
  • Double check the card type (for example, American Express), the account number and expiration date.
  • Remove dashes or spaces from the account number.
  • If everything seems to be correct, call the card issuer's customer service 800 number on the back of your card. Your credit card company may need to speak with you before they authorize your purchase.

Account verification

To prevent any unnecessary delays processing your order, please ensure that the billing addresses on your order matches the information on your credit card account. If you have recently moved or are unsure whether you receive your credit card statement at your work or home address, please contact your card-issuing bank using the 800 number on the back of your credit card to confirm.

Security codes

The card security code is a unique three or four digit number printed on the front (American Express) or back (Discover/MasterCard/Visa) of your card, in addition to the account number.

Daily spending limits for Debit Cards

Most debit and check cards have daily spending limits that may substantially delay the processing of an order, even if there is enough money in an account. When using a debit card, funds are immediately reserved in your bank account at the time you place your order. Please consult your card-issuing bank for information about your daily spending limits if you are having trouble placing your order.

When we charge your account

When you place an order, we will contact your credit or debit card's issuing bank to confirm it is a valid account. We request an authorization, which holds the funds for the full or partial purchase amount. As we prepares your item(s), authorized funds will be unavailable and may display as "pending" on your credit or debit card's online statement.

If you are shipping an item, your card will only be charged after the item has shipped. For pickup items, you will be billed before your item is ready for pick up. If your order contains multiple items, you may see multiple charges on your credit or debit card statement. 

If you cancel your order before your items are billed, any authorizations placed on your credit card account can take up to 30 days to expire and any authorizations placed on your debit card account can take up to 10 days to expire. Contact your financial institution for their specific timeframes.

If you are paying for your order with an international Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit card, please note that the purchase price may fluctuate with exchange rates. In addition, your bank or credit card issuer may also charge you foreign conversion charges and fees, which may also increase the overall cost of your purchase. Please contact your bank or credit card issuer regarding these fees.

Any gift card issued by a credit card company can be used as a method of payment on the Apple Online Store. During checkout, if you are paying with a gift card issued by a credit card company, you can combine it with one credit card.


When you place an order with PayPal you will be redirected to the PayPal website. There you will then need to login with your PayPal username and password. Before completing the order, check whether the total amount and billing details are correct.

Even if you are not an existing PayPal customer, you can choose this payment method for todays purchase and either set up a new account or pay as a guest.

If your order consists of multiple deliveries, your PayPal account will be charged separately for each shipment.



We are required to collect sales tax for all orders billed to or shipped to an address in New York State. The current rate of sales tax in Ulster Co. is 8%

We want you to be delighted with your purchase. If you are not satisfied for any reason, please return the item(s), in unused condition, complete with all packaging, instructions, warranty cards, etc. within 30 days of date of purchase and we will gladly exchange the item(s) or refund the purchase price (excluding shipping & insurance charges).

This policy does not apply to Gift Crads, Earrings, Body Jewelry or Tarot Cards which have been opened as these items may only be returned if defective.

Items returned for refund that were originally purchased using a Credit/Debit card may be subject to a 10% restocking fee.

Receipt required for refunds - we regret that items returned without a receipt will only be exchanged.

Your statutory rights are not affected.

We appreciate that you want to get your goods as soon as possible, so we do our best to make that happen while keeping our shipping costs as low as possible.

We ship almost exclusively via USPS Priority Mail as we find it is prompt, reliable and offers the best value for money. However, we do also offer alternative shipping methods at checkout, subject to weight and final destination.

We normally ship all 'in stock' items within one business day of receipt of your confirmed order. All orders are carefully packed to ensure that your goods arrive safely in perfect condition. In the unlikely event of your package arriving in a damaged condition, we ask that you contact us immediately and we will do all that we can to make things right.

Items that ship via 'Electronic Shipping' are normally available for download immediately on completetion of your order. However certain items, such as online readings, require additional processing time to complete your order. If this is the case, you will be notified via email when your order is available for download.

International Shipping

We are happy to ship items internationally and offer the full range of USPS International Shipping options allowing you to choose the service which best suits your needs. Items shipped internationally may be subject to additional import duties or customs clearance charges levied by the receiving country and are the responsibility of the customer. 

Your complete satisfaction is our primary concern, and we want you to be totally happy with your order. If you are not happy with the goods you receive, we offer a 'hassle-free' return policy. Please see our Refunds and Returns Policy page for details.

The Awareness Shop is conveniently located in the historic village of New Paltz, nestled at the foot of the Shwangunk Ridge, an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York State.

We are open daily from 12:00 PM. On Friday, Saturday & Sunday we open until 6:00pm, but Monday through Thursday we are open later until 8:00pm.

If you're traveling by road, our store is less than a mile from Junction 18 of the NYS Thruway (I-87) - use the map below to get directions. If you're coming via public transit, New Paltz is served by both Trailways and UCAT bus services. The nearest train station is Poughkeepsie which is served by Metro-North.
