Lughnasadh : August 2nd The Grain Harvest Festival
Tonight marks the Death of the Corn King, the Green Man, the Wicker Man. This harvest festival was the only time pagans drank red wine or berry juice to symbolize the blood of the fallen lord. Gathering the crops is a symbol of the success of the power that was raised at Beltane. Although Litha saw the Sun begin to wane it is only now that this truly sets in as the leaves look tired and the fall is just around the corner. Days are getting shorter. There are many rituals you can do to honor the Ancient Ones on this harvest night. Burn a Wicker man, make corn husk dollies and burn them in a cauldron to help you release or banish unwanted energy. Have corn bread or whole grain breads as cakes and red wine for ale. Begin your time of introspection as the wheel turns towards Mabon.
